# Cart-A-Vision: everything in one file

> Cart-A-Vision is an online retro video game store based in Rock Island, IL (the Quad Cities). We sell, buy and trade retro and modern video games, consoles, controllers and trading cards (Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece), shipping across the US. Every listing is one specific copy, photographed as-is: the copy in the photos is the copy that ships.

Every number here comes from the same code that runs https://www.cart-a-vision.com and its checkout. Live stock: https://www.cart-a-vision.com/llms/inventory.md. What we pay: https://www.cart-a-vision.com/llms/what-we-pay.md.

## Our story

Cart-A-Vision started at a mall con show. My wife pointed out a complete-in-box Sega Genesis Model 2. I never had one and always wanted one. Years before, I'd had to sell my whole collection to make rent and pay the bills.

After that Genesis, I found a complete-in-box Sonic the Hedgehog to go with it, and the rest has been history. It brought back my love for the retro world. It also showed me how much that world had filled up with scalpers and "collectors" buying up the supply and scalping the prices.

That's where we come in. Honest, published rates. Priced at market. For collectors, by collectors.

### Our guarantee

**Buying From Us: 30-Day Return & Authenticity Guarantee**

- If what arrives doesn't match its listed condition, or isn't authentic as described, it's a full return within 30 days.
- A game or console listed as tested that doesn't work when it arrives doesn't match its listing either. Same 30 days, same free return.
- We pay for the return shipping. You don't pay anything to send it back.
- Your refund comes as cash or store credit, whichever you want. That call is yours, not ours.

**The Price-Lock Guarantee: Trading In To Us**

- If it matches what you told us at intake, your quoted price is your price. Full stop — we don't re-open a number just because we can.
- The only time it moves is a real, disclosed gap between what you said and what showed up — and even then you get the exact reason, off the same locked list every time, never improvised: repro or bootleg, too damaged, non-functional, not wanted, or below minimum value.
- Take the revised offer, or say no and we'll ship it back to you. Free, same as the return shipping above.
- No silent lowballing. No "we'll just keep it" default. Every call is yours.

**Lost or Damaged in Transit**

- Covered either direction: on the way to us, or on the way back to you.
- Every label is tracked and insured to the full comp value of what's inside, whether that's a $600 grail or a $5 loose cart.

**30-Day Functional Guarantee**

Every console, controller, dock, and other piece of hardware we sell gets powered on and tested before it's ever listed — not just eyeballed.
If something we tested working develops a real functional defect within 30 days of delivery under normal use, that's on us.

Covered:
- Console won't power on
- Charging or power delivery fails
- Display or video output fails
- Controller develops button, joystick, or connection issues
- Dock stops charging or docking properly
- Any other hardware defect that materially stops it from doing what it's supposed to do

If a covered defect shows up, we'll make it right — our call on which, whichever gets you sorted fastest:
- Repair it
- Replace it with the same item or something comparable
- Refund it, if repair or replacement isn't reasonably available

This covers defects, not damage or wear. It doesn't cover:
- Physical damage — cracked screens, cracked housings, bent parts
- Liquid or moisture damage
- Damage from drops, impacts, misuse, abuse, or neglect
- Opening it up, modifying it, or having it repaired by anyone but us
- Normal cosmetic wear that doesn't affect function
- Lost or stolen items or accessories
- Damage caused by someone else's cables, chargers, screens, or other third-party equipment
- Software or account issues that aren't actually a hardware defect

### Our promises on every offer

- Your offer shows every rate, item by item, before you ship.
- Once you submit, your rates are locked. A later rate change never touches it.

- Anything we find in hand comes with the reason in writing. Take the new offer or get it back.

### How a trade-in works

01. **List what you've got.** You: Add each item to the form with a couple of photos. Be honest about flaws. Us: Each line pulls its market comp as you type. Nothing is committed yet.
02. **Watch the number appear.** You: Nothing. Your cash and credit figures show up live, per item and in total. Us: Code applies the rate to the comp — nobody decides a number by mood. No comp on file? I price it by hand.
03. **Accept and ship it free.** You: Accept, print the emailed label, box it up, drop it off. Put loose discs in a sleeve or case. Us: The label is prepaid, tracked and insured. If we don't take something, we pay to send it back.
04. **We inspect it in the open.** You: Check your trade-in's status any time. Us: Inspected and tested within 48 hours of arrival. If anything differs from the quote, you get photos and notes, not just a smaller number.
05. **You get paid.** You: Pick cash, store credit, or a split of both. Us: Credit usually issues the day inspection finishes. Cash goes out within 1 business day of approval.

- **Lost in transit?** Every label is tracked and insured to the full comp value of your shipment. A $600 grail and a $5 loose cart are both covered for what they're actually worth.
- **Sent something we don't want?** Mailed back at our cost. No obligation, no restocking fee.
- **How fast is this?** Inspected and tested within 48 hours of arrival. Value confirmed same day. Store credit same day post-inspection when possible. Cash payout within 1 business day of approval.
- **Shipping a loose disc?** Sleeve or jewel case it, don't ship it bare — a loose disc shifts around and scratches easily in transit, which can mean a condition deduction. Loose cartridges are fine as-is.

## FAQ

### Trading in

**Is there a minimum trade value?**

Any item with a comp on file qualifies, no minimum dollar threshold. Titles with no reliable comp data may be passed on. TCG singles comped at $10 or under pay a lower rate (50% cash / 75% credit instead of the standard 75%/85%), so for a handful of low-value cards it's usually worth bundling them into a bulk lot instead of mailing each one in individually. Inside a bulk lot specifically, cards comped under $1 pay a flat 25% cash with no credit option — that tier is built for near-worthless bulk commons, not a discount on anything worth submitting on its own.

**Do you buy consoles and accessories, or just games?**

All of it: consoles, games, and accessories, as long as it's retro hardware or software with a comp on file. We also buy TCG cards: Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece, raw or graded. One rate difference: consoles are priced at a flat 55% cash / 85% store credit no matter how high they comp — the 85% high-value bump is games-only.

**What do CIB, Loose, Box-only, and Manual-only mean?**

CIB = Complete In Box (game, box, and manual all present). Loose = cartridge/disc only. Box-only and Manual-only are priced separately, since they're collected on their own.

**Why do loose discs pay less?**

A disc on its own is the hardest thing we resell. Most buyers want the case, and a loose disc under $30 usually sells for only a few dollars once fees and shipping come out. So loose discs under $30 pay 40% cash or 60% store credit instead of the standard 55% / 85%. It only applies when all four are true: it's a game (not a console, controller or accessory), it's loose (disc only, no original case), it's on a disc-based system (PlayStation 1–5, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Series X, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Dreamcast or Saturn), and it comps under $30. Cartridges (NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, DS, 3DS, Switch, Genesis and the rest) aren't affected, because loose is how those are normally owned. Neither is anything complete in box. A loose disc worth $30 or more still climbs the normal ladder (75% cash from $30, 85% from $100), and marquee titles worth $50 or more keep their top-tier rate. Have the original case and manual? Add the disc as CIB instead and it prices at the standard rate. The number is still exact before you ship, and even at 40% it's usually well above what a big-box trade-in counter pays for the same disc.

**Why do sports games pay a flat rate?**

Yearly sports games (Madden, FIFA, NBA 2K, NHL, MLB The Show, NCAA and the like) valued under $15 pay a flat $1.50 complete-in-box ($2.25 credit) or $0.50 loose ($0.75 credit). At $15 and up they pay the normal rates. Last year's roster update still lists for $7–15 online, but it sells slowly, so we pay a fixed amount instead of a share of that number. It covers the yearly series only: arcade and one-off sports games like NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, NBA Street and MLB Power Pros keep the normal rates, and so does any sealed copy. Your quote shows the flat rate before you ship.

**What if a disc doesn't play?**

For a disc, it comes down to one question: can it be resurfaced to play? If it can, it's paid at our Overly Scratched (resurfacing) rate, scaled to that disc's tier. If it can't be resurfaced to a playable state, it's $0: we don't pay for discs that won't play. That's the only difference, whether it's loose or complete in box, and whether you told us up front or we found it at inspection. Tick "doesn't power on" on the form and the disc is quoted at the resurfacing rate; we test it when it arrives and confirm or zero it before anything is final. You can decline the final offer and have it sent back. Cartridges and consoles are different: a dead cart is usually a repair job (dirty pins, a battery), so those keep our Inoperable and As-Is rates.

**What do Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, and Heavily Played mean for cards?**

The same condition standards TCGplayer and the rest of the industry use. Near Mint = no visible wear. Lightly Played = very minor edge or surface wear, still displays clean. Moderately Played = clearly visible scratches or whitening. Heavily Played = significant wear, but still intact. Damaged = structural damage: creases, tears, water damage. If your card is professionally graded (PSA, BGS, CGC), give us the company and the grade instead and we'll comp off that.

**Do loose discs need to ship in a case?**

Yes — a sleeve or jewel case, not just the bare disc loose in the box. Discs shift around in transit and pick up scratches easily without something protecting them, and a disc that shows up overly scratched gets priced at that published condition rate instead of standard. Cartridges don't have this issue and are fine to ship loose.

**Can I send items in the same box that you might not want?**

Yes. Every item in a multi-item submission is reviewed and priced individually, so you can accept what works and decline what doesn't. There's no all-or-nothing requirement.

**Do you accept trades from outside the US and Canada?**

US and Canada for now. The form requires a US or Canadian shipping address; submissions from other countries aren't accepted. Email trades@cart-a-vision.com if you want to ask directly; we don't have a timeline for other countries to share yet.

### Shipping and payment

**What if I disagree with the final inspection value?**

We document every inspection with photos, condition notes, and board verification when relevant, so you can see the full before-and-after. If something changes from your original quote, you'll see exactly why.

**What happens to items you don't want?**

If we decline an item that's genuinely yours and as described — just not something we want right now, or in rougher shape than expected — it's mailed back at our cost, no obligation, no restocking fee. If what arrives doesn't match what was submitted (different item, counterfeit sent in place of a real one, condition photos that don't reflect reality), the trade doesn't complete and the item isn't returned. We'll always tell you plainly why.

**What counts as a mismatch?**

Photos and notes that don't reflect what actually shows up — wrong game entirely, a repro or counterfeit submitted as if it were authentic, or damage well beyond what was disclosed. Honest mistakes and genuine condition disagreements aren't mismatches — those still get the standard return-at-our-cost treatment above.

**How fast do I get paid?**

Inspected and tested within 48 hours of arrival. Value confirmed same day. Store credit issues same day post-inspection when possible. Cash payout within 1 business day of approval.

**Is my shipment insured?**

Every label is tracked and insured to the full comp value of your shipment.

### Grading and authenticity

**How do you catch repro labels and bootlegs?**

Every cart is pulled apart and checked against known-good references (label print, board stamp, shell mold marks) before it's priced. Full breakdown on our How We Grade It page.

**How do you catch counterfeit or over-graded cards?**

Every card gets checked against known-genuine prints (font, cardstock, holo pattern, card back print quality) before it's priced. Full breakdown on our How We Grade It page.

**What if something you sell me turns out to be fake or non-working?**

Covered under Our Guarantee. Full policy, including who pays return shipping and how refunds work, on our Guarantee page.

### Selling trading cards

**What TCGs do you buy?**

Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece — raw or professionally graded (PSA, BGS, CGC).

Add the disc as CIB instead and it prices at the standard rate. The number is still exact before you ship, and even at 40% it's usually well above what a big-box trade-in counter pays for the same disc.

**Do you buy Japanese or other foreign-language cards?**

Yes. English, Japanese, and other-language prints are all accepted — tell us the language when you submit and we comp off the matching print, not the English price for a Japanese card.

**Do you buy graded cards?**

Yes — PSA, BGS, and CGC slabs. We confirm the slab actually matches the card and grade claimed before pricing it as graded; see How We Grade It for the full check.

**How do you catch counterfeit or over-graded cards?**

Every card gets checked against known-genuine prints (font, cardstock, holo pattern, card back print quality) before it's priced. Full breakdown on our How We Grade It page.

### Store credit

**How does store credit work?**

Issued through our Shopify store credit system, usable on any purchase. Credit expires 12 months from issue, but can roll over depending on account activity.

**Can I combine cash and credit on one trade?**

Yes. Pick cash or store credit item by item on the same trade-in. Each item pays its own rate in whichever you chose, and your offer adds up the cash and the credit separately.
